Towson and Azrou: How a Narrow Leg Opens the Floor

    14 August
A bench and a console arrive at Dantone Home, both close to 140 cm wide, both standing on legs thin enough to keep the floor in view.

Two new pieces join the collection: the Towson Bench and the Azrou Console Table. A long piece that meets the floor along its full length closes the room behind it. Raised on narrow legs, the same piece leaves the floor reading through, and the room keeps its depth. The two are almost the same width, 146 cm and 141.5 cm. Neither takes up as much room as that suggests.

Towson: Volume Above, Very Little Below

Towson is a single rounded seat, upholstered in a pale oatmeal bouclé of polyester and acrylic. The looped yarn breaks the surface into small flecks, so the fabric picks up light in points rather than across a flat plane.

Set across the foot of the bed, it holds the width of the mattress and keeps the floor open beneath

Under the cover, foam sits over a pine and plywood frame. The legs are dark tapered metal, canted slightly outward, and they meet the floor on four points no wider than a finger. The seat stands 47 cm high, the height of a dining chair, which is what puts it to use at the foot of a bed or along the wall of an entrance.

The mitred corner sets a hard line against the curve, which is what keeps the rounded volume in shape

    Azrou: Stone on Hammered Iron

The Azrou top is Modern Grey marble with rounded ends, set on a base of hammered iron in black. The hammering leaves the rod irregular along its length, so daylight catches it in broken points instead of one continuous highlight.

At 35 cm deep, it fits a corridor without narrowing the walk past it

The base is drawn as a loop. The rod runs the length of the piece, turns up beneath the stone, and comes down again as four legs, round in section. At 35 cm deep the console takes little from a corridor wall, and circulation past it stays intact.

The legs turn away into loops before they reach the top, so nothing runs straight from floor to stone
